2021 Top Projects | "Vision for Pohakea" Storm Water Management Project

2021 Top Projects | "Vision for Pohakea" Storm Water Management Project

In this week’s episode of Dropping By, SWS Managing Editor Katie Johns, introduces the #1 2021 SWS Top Project – the "Vision for Pohakea" Storm Water Management Project.

Amy Hodges, Programs and Operations Manager for Maui Newi Marine Resource Council, drops by to discuss the project, which came about because sediment-laden storm water from the Pohakea Watershed undermines the water quality in Ma’alaea Bay and threatens coral reefs and marine wildlife. This project sought to improve near short water quality,  the health of coral reefs, suppress wildfires in the watershed, monitor storm water runoff and more.
